Team NC
The Mission for Team NC is a “One Team” approach to provide expert coaching to NC junior players in order to provide developmentally-appropriate physical and mental strategies through active team-based instruction. In support of the American Development Model, our teaching staff of selected certified coaches will utilize appropriate skill competencies and themes in our education with a conscious effort toward inclusion and respect for all. This collective effort is focused on growing positive representation and support within USTA North Carolina and optimizing North Carolina player development for success in the competitive junior tournament pathway.

USTA North Carolina values and encourages team representation at all levels. The Southern Ozaki Junior Cup (National Level 4 2023 event) is arguably USTA NC's most competitive junior team event, bringing top-ranked players together as a team of One, to compete together to be the best state (district) in the Southern Section.
The September Team event highlights advanced level play, teamwork, and sportsmanship. It is also an opportunity for players and families to experience the team atmosphere that simulates collegiate tennis.
This Sectional Team event, named after recently retired Sectional Competition Director and long-time Southern Junior Cup organizer and tournament director, Bill Ozaki.
The 2023 event brings with it a new format that makes it a pure state representation for all age divisions, 12U-14U-16U-18U, with 3B/3G in each age division per state.
All nine states (aka districts) compete, with coaching provided, within each age division playing singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. The total team score determines a sectional winner.
Players will earn National Level 4 points in this advanced team event.
USTA North Carolina Jr Competition Selection Committee and coaching staff, in consult with USTA North Carolina staff, will invite players based on various criteria, including coach recommendations, head-to-head match results, sportsmanship (player must have < 6 suspension points), as well as any ratings and up-to-date rankings from the National Standing List at the time of selection.
The Selection Committee reserves the right to move players to a different age division to field the strongest, most competitive Southern Ozaki Cup team possible if the player in question is age eligible. Players may request a preference for age division consideration, but player will not be guaranteed a spot to play that division.
